Aloha. My name is Bert Bautista. Born and raised in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. I started playing
drums at the age of 14 and became a professional musician when I turned 17. In the 60s and 70s I played
with top local bands in Waikiki and the neighbor islands.
I moved to Kona in 1980 and continued playing drums with various local bands in Kailua Kona and
Waikoloa Hotels, Resorts, Clubs and Concerts.
My styles of playing includes, Pop, Jazz, Rock, Classic Soul, R& B, Motown, Funk, Jazz Funk, Raggae,
Steve Gadd, Harvey Mason, Dave Garibaldi, Jeff Poraro, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Steve Farrone,
and Steve Smith.
In 1978 I played all the drum tracks with some of the top musicians from Honolulu did recorded with a
band called, Lemuria.
My method of teaching is very simple and easy. I will not teach you theory or rudiments. Your first lesson
will be on different stick grips, stick control, listening and copying the kinds of music and drum styles
you want to play. With that said, I just have fun and not too much thinking.
